If you are the music director in your local high school, then more than likely you are consider what musical you want to put on at your school this year. There are many great musicals out there for you to choose from, but you need to find one that is great for the students that you have been working with and one that will be enjoyable for those performing and for those who come to watch it. So, if you need a few ideas for your high school musical, here are a few to consider.

One very well known musical that has been done by many high schools in the past is the musical Oliver! This is an excellent choice for a high school musical, since there are so many great parts and it is exciting to perform and to watch. Basically the story is about a young boy who is a pickpocket living in an orphanage. There is a bit of romance, some tragedy, and definitely a lot of excitement to be found in this musical.

Fiddler on the Roof
Another great idea for a high school musical is the musical, Fiddler on the Roof. This is a musical about a Jewish man who has several daughters he wants to marry off, except he isn’t always very fond of their choices. With quite a bit of romance coupled with humor, and of course some excellent music, this is a great musical choice for your high school music and drama department.

My Fair Lady
My Fair Lady is another great choice for your high school musical. This musical centers around a girl named Eliza who isn’t from the best side of town. A speech specialist makes a bet that he can pass her off for a lady, just by changing the way she speaks. There are definitely a lot of laughs to be found in this musical, and it is sure to be a huge hit.

This is the quintessential high school musical, since it actually takes place in a high school.  There are lots of great songs and dancing, and classic parts for all students.
